09:44 am - Oh god help me Urge to play... World of Warcraft... rising...

11:19 am It's time to accept the truth - I'm not going to get any Thieves' World work done this weekend. It's too hot, too dry, and too longweekendish. There are social outings to be made, damnit, and sometimes that has to take a higher prirotity than writing a pile of feats.
And besides, a couple of days off will not screw my schedule - amazingly, I'm still ahead of schedule on this baby, with nearly two months before my final deadline. The collaborative aspects of this particular gig mean I need to finish things before that point, sure, so that other writers can make use of my material - but again, it's all smooth sailing right now.
It may be a different story in two weeks, sure, but let's burn that bridge when we're standing on it.
Instead, I'm going to curl up with Gene Wolfe's The Knight, which already bears promise of being as fascinating as his other novels, wait for rubybluenote to get home from the US, and then head out to meet mordwen for a post-Woodford drink.
Not a bad plan, all in all. Feeling very comfortable. And it's not just because I'm not wearing any pants.

05:42 pm - Damnit damnit damnit Just installed and attempted to run Vampire: Bloodlines, only to discover that I don't have enough RAM.
Gonna have to go buy another 200 meg or so to run this puppy. Which I can afford, and which is easily doable.
But damnit, I wanted to play now.
Sigh. Maybe this is God's way of making me concentrate on my Thieves' World work...

06:58 pm Check this shit out, boys and girls:
US plans for lifetime detention without trial of terror suspects
Gotta hand it to Bush. People have been chucking the phrase 'concentration camp' around for things like Guantanamo and Australian detention centres, but he's had the balls to start planning the real fucking thing as opposed to half-arsed versions.
Christ.
Start making some noise about this, America, before it gets quietly approved and the biggest rape of civil liberties in your nation's history slides into place.
(Thanks to pope_guilty for the link. Pass it around.)
